DIY Gift Packaging with Balsa Wood isn't something that you would necessarily think about doing when putting together a gift package, but this idea came to me when I was in New Orleans, I couldn't help myself when I thought how cool this would look. The bummer part was that I really wanted my burlap ribbon but I had left it at home (don't you just hate that!). So I challenged myself with the Cherry Cobbler Ribbon. After all ribbon is a girls best friend!
I LOVE LOVE this single stamp. It's called Wonderful Blessing, uses Clear Block E, and sells for $8.95. (Item#134779), but that isn't why I LOVE it.
To me this stamp set captures Chirstmas in the way I celebrate. I LOVE the PEACE ON EARTH we need more peace throughout the worth, in my opinion. I was also quite surprised how large it was. As you can see this stamp is really large, a little over 3 inches in diameter. I used the Circle framelits to cut it out of Balsa Wood. You might be thinking, "She brought Balsa Wood to New Orleans?" Yep, I'm a freak like that I guess (lol) I've been challenging myself with different materials for the big shot so I just grabbed some things quickly as I packed.
Imagine the joy I felt when I took the Stazon Black ink and stamped it onto the Balsa wood. It gave an instant rustic look. Awesome! Just what I was looking for. Then I thought, "Burlap ribbon!" I began searching frantically through my crafting suitcase filled with all sorts of goodies,
"It has to be here" I say outloud to my friend Monica…..then reality "Oh crud, I left it at home" …instant disappointment. So being the determined crafter I am I took the Gorgeous Grunge stamp set and stamped the muslin bag with Cherry Cobbler Classic Ink. But it looked a little sparse so I added the ribbon. Not bad I think to myself.
So I learned a lesson crafting on the road. When creating, and having to rely on limited materials, it's important to give yourself grace and realize that not every project will be perfect.
Wondering where to get Blasa Wood so you can create your own DIY Gift Packaging with Balsa Wood? You can get it at any big box crafting store. Balsa Wood is a thin piece of wood and usually found in the wood working section of the craft store or the "wood section" in the craft store!
Would love to see what you create with Balsa Wood!
