Happy Earth Day
Happy Earth Day Mother Earth!

The original Earth Day was organized by Gaylord Nelson, a US senator from Wisconsin who was eager to mobilize kind of energy that made the Vietnam-era protests possible in order to demand environmental justice. Earth Day began in 1970 and has since been the platform to keeping our Mother Earth Healthy through Recycling and Bringing Awareness To Everyone!  Earth Day 1970 capitalized on the emerging consciousness, channeling the energy of the anti-war protest movement and putting environmental concerns front and center. Thank you for your patience while our site was down!

Thankfully we are up and running again!

To celebrate we  thought it would be fun to enter the Dazzing Divias Challenge 21 Mothers Day or Anything Goes and Honor Mother Earth!

Using My Digital Studio we created a collage of heart warming photos to show our Love for Mother Earth.  Is that enough?   Well, maybe there is something else we can all do for Earth Day.   Don't you get that feeling as you hear the news talk about Earth Day?  You know that nagging feeling that there is something MORE that you should be doing?   We felt the same way and came up with 5 things we could do to Celebrate Earth Day.  It's our hope that at least one of them will inspire you to Celebrate Earth Day in a different way this year!

  1. Get Outside – Why not take a hike or go for a bike ride? Maybe even go kayaking? Get outside, breathe the air, feel the sun on your cheeks and hopefully absorb some vitamin D.   Even if you just have biting wind in your face, being outdoors brings us closer to Mother Earth.  Even if you live in the city and don’t have easy access to a lot of green space, you’d be amazed how even spending a short amount of time in an urban park will rejuvenate your mind, body and spirit.
  2. Have A Green Thumb?  If you have never experienced the magic of rolling up your sleeves and digging up some earth, then now is the perfect opportunity. Gardening is a wonderful way to reflect on how much we depend on the earth for our survival. If you don’t have your own garden or you live in a city a quick google search should lead you to at least one communal garden or even a rooftop or urban garden where they are always looking for help.   You will get to meet new people who love our planet as much as you do!
  3. Plant a Tree – Ok, I know this isn't anything new.  Some of our first thoughts of Earth Day is that of Planting a Tree.   Believe it or not It might sound like a bit of a cliche, but planting trees is by far one of the most important gifts we can give back to the planet and to ourselves.  Trees have the ability to suck up carbon dioxide, which is why the Amazon and other forests are so important. If every person on the planet plants one tree, that amounts to nearly 7 billion new carbon sponges. You can plant a tree in your own backyard, or join a group.  Do it every year and before long you will have your own little forest!
  4. Clean out your Closet –  It may not seem like an exciting thing to do, but if you think about it, manufacturing new clothing requires both energy and water, and there are a lot of people who don't have money to buy their own clothes or may not be able to buy new clothes.  By donating your clothing that you haven't worn in years to a local charity not only will this make you feel good about lightening your load, but the people who receive your lightly used clothing will be so thankful you'll wonder if it's someones Birthday and not Earth Day!
  5. Consider Going Organic - At 1st Class Creativity we have been trying to eat more organic beef, chicken, pork, and organic, veggies, fruits and grains.  It really does help reduce our carbon footprint in addition to the many nutrients that you find in Organic Food that you don't get anywhere else.  The more research you do, the more you realize how important Organic Eating is to your Health, Wellness and to Good Ol' Mother Earth!

Please leave a comment on how YOU are going to celebrate Earth Day!  We would love to hear from you and if you have any suggestions please share with us!
