When creating Masculine DIY Cards try to keep it clean and simple.  Most men prefer clean simple lines.   I've found however the background can be a great jumping off point when creating your masculine cards.  

Case in point, I finish the cards and give them to my son to write something for the coach inside and they both say…"COOL CARD MOM!".   What's better than hearing those words after you create a card!?

So here are the secret 5 special techniques that I have found to help jump-start  Masculine DIY Card Ideas, they are:

1. Faux Leather
2. Faux Alligator/Snake Skin
3. Faux (or real) wood
4. Craft Metal
5. Canvas

As a bonus, today I will teach you how I created the backgrounds on the cards I submitted to the Dazzling Divas Challenge # 16 today!  The card above is one of three cards that were created as Thank You cards for the Basketball Coaches at sons school.  Each card is a little different, but they each use the colored and distressed Canvas technique.

Here is how you complete the colored & distressed Canvas Technique:

1. In the card above the background was created doing this:
1. Cut your canvas to 3 3/4 x 5 1/4.
2. Cover the Canvas with Versa Mark Ink
3. Pour Early Espresso Embossing Powder over the canvas, tap off excess and heat with heating tool, your done!
2. In card 2 and 3 below after I embossed:
1. I crinkled up the canvas to create a weathered look
2. sponged in the white with chocolate chip ink to give it even more weathered look.
