Today on Tool Tip Friday I'm answering a question from Valerie in San Antonio Texas,  she asked:

Q: I purchased the Stampin' Up! Corner Rounder Punch but cannot get a nice looking corner.  Any Tips?

A:  Using the 3/16" Corner Punch is a great way to add a special touch to your hand stamped cards.  I'm going to share with you today some tips that will help you get the best looking corner.

  • Make sure your paper is cut square.  No odd shapes for this job!   Your paper should have straight sides.
  • Use a scrap piece of paper to practice on until you get a feel for this 3/16" Corner Punch.
  • Your paper should fit snugly into both edges of the guides, and into the back of the punch.  You won't want to make the same mistake I did when I tried to center the paper by looking through the bottom of your punch; instead align your paper using the guides.  This goes against my rule of "punch upside down".
  • Set your paper into both guides, as well as the back of the punch as mentioned above.  Make sure your paper is flush with the guides as far as it will go into the back of the punch.  Don't force it, just make sure it fits snugly into the guides.  If your paper isn't set fully into the guides you won't get a good clean punch.
  • If you don't get a perfect corner, try centering your paper in the guides and try punching again; your design should punch correctly.   Don't get discouraged if it doesn't come out right the first couple times, sometimes it takes a little practice.
  • Cut only one sheet of paper at a time.  This punch is designed to punch one sheet of designer series paper or one sheet of card stock at a time.

The next time you are making a hand stamped card, consider adding some rounded corners to your design.  It will give your cards a custom look that shows you care.
