Have you ever created a DIY Card with Embossing Paste & Stencils? It's a fun technique but there are some tricks every papercrafter should know when creating with theses two items, and I look forward to sharing some tips with you today.
One of my favorite Challenges to participate in is the Dazzling Divas Challenge. This week the inspiration for my card came from the photo above and the Dazzling Divas Challenge #14. I found that participating in her challenges helps me with a direction in my card creation. I played on the yellow and greens in the picture.
The DIY Card card was created using Pearlescent Embossing Paste & Dream Weavers Stencils. This card is fairly easy to do but working with embossing paste and stencils can be a bit tricky. Today I will share some tips on creating a DIY Card with Embossing Paste & Stencils so you can save your self some time and money when creating with these items.
- First it's really important that the stencils stay flat.
- If your stencils bend they will not take the embossing paste properly, even if it's bent just a little bit. This is a bummer because once the stencil is not completely flat they don't work well anymore and you have to purchase a new one.
- To avoid having your stencils bend do the following:
- When washing your stencils keep them flat and use a flat sink base.
- When scrubbing your stencils clean be sure not to bend them, it's important that you scrub them on a flat base. Use a stiff brush but use gently.
- When lifting up your stencil after applying the embossing paste be sure not to bend the stencil.
- When applying your embossing paste you only need a thin layer, less is best!
- When applying your embossing paste use a palette knife or paste spreader. Which one you use will depend on how big your stencil is.
You can purchase Craft Metal, Stencils and Embossing Paste at the ALD store
I think your card is just lovely! You did an amazing job with the embossing paste and your card really interpreted the inspiration photo so well. Beautifully done!
Thank you Sandi!
