Sympathy Card – May your Memories Bring You Peace. This DIY Handmade Card is something that doesn't address a happy subject, but it's inevitable that we will all experience loss at one point or another throughout out life. When someones hurting from a loss we help in many ways.
- Giving a call letting the family know you are there if they need something
- Give flowers
- Make a donation
- Send a fruit basket
- Run errands
- Bring food over for the family
- Pray
- Attend the funeral or wake
- Console the family
- Send a heartfelt sentiment in a Handmade Sympathy Card
Any and all these ways are appropriate. I find that in addition to some of the obvious ways of helping someone through a tough time, adding a handmade card means something really special. I actually wait about 3-4 weeks to send a sympathy card. The reason for this is that when my mom died in 2004 I received a slew of cards, so many my mind was spinning and it was very overwhelming. Then a few weeks went by and I received a card. It really meant alot to me and I really appreciated it a lot more because I wasn't freshly grieving the loss of my mom and it didn't seem like a whirlwind of cards. The card was very comforting and to this day I still remember how it helped me through the grieving process. I'm not implying that you should do this I'm just sharing my opinion and an experience that I had.
When creating a sympathy card I'm often asked, "What do you put inside?" I like a site Sympathy Messages.com it includes messages as well as Etiquette.
If you are experiencing a loss or know of someone who is grieving, I recommend checking out www.griefshare.com
