Bone Folder

What’s a Bone Folder used for?   This little gem is something that you can’t do without in your craft room!   This tool  might seem a little unassuming but it’s kinda like a super hero in the craft room!

What a Bone Folder is used for

The Bone folder was traditionally used as a book binder tool and you can still use it as such.  Now it’s used to make your life easy in the craft room and create a crisp look that enhances your paper crafting.

Use a Bone Folder to:

  • Create a crisp fold when creating cards and/or 3 dimensional projects
  • Perfect to use for folding and creasing coated and thick paper so it’s not clunky.
  • Use it to score your paper by itself  (using a ruler) or with a scoring plate
    • TIP when scoring your paper and folding it, fold it in opposite direction of the fold.
  • Use to crease folds
  • Allows you to score and fold cleanly
  • Great to use for scoring thick paper
  • Good for text weight paper (which is much lighter) and makes folds easily but use to get crisp folds.  (TIP: Use less pressure when using with lighter weight paper)
  • Can be used to crease and fold Vellum
  • Use to distress your paper
  • Perfect for:
    • accordion books
    • working with projects that have a lot of folds
    • good to use to get even clean folds on various types of papers
    • great for Origami
  • Handy tool just not for folding and scoring such as:
    • Spreading out ink after re inking your ink pad (TIP: Be sure to clean right away to avoid staining, although a stained bone folder doesn’t reduce its use)
    • Use to burnish small details
    • Use it for pressing out, glued paper, use to get out details, and  bubbles on any paper you adhere with glue and/or adhesive  paper
    • Rip Paper – helps create an edge that will rip clean
      • to do this score it, fold in opposite direction and then gently rip and it will give you a clean tear
    • Perfect to use for image transfers
